To establish a viable local food system, communities will need to focus on capacity building. Over time our reliance on imported food sources has led to a diminished infrastructure, family farm foreclosures and the disappearance of available farmland. We are now seeing a renaissance in agriculture and renewed interest in where our food comes from. Building capacity is an essential element to a local food supply.
EFP and our partner EcoPraxis are doing the deep work necessary to assist communities in starting a strategic planning process to better understand the existing realities of the local food systems. We are then taking this to the next level by identifying what is needed to strengthen local linkages and develop healthier food systems through relationship building.
