about

Classrooms can start their own edible school gardens with classroom grow boxes or outdoor raised beds. Students will plant seeds or starters, care for their plants, work with beneficial insects, harvest and eat the fruits of their labor.

Experts in the fields of farming, organic gardening, cooking and nutrition are available to visit the classroom to explore how the food system continuum of horticulture, agriculture, food and the environment relate to them individually and as members of a community.

Students will gain a holistic perspective of the chain of events required to bring food to the table and the nutritional value these foods bring to their bodies.

Students will journal and draw in garden notebooks during the process.
