communities

about

hoaIn the days after September 11th, along with the horror and devastation, there was also a sure and mighty heart opening in people and communities across the United States and throughout the world.  The Heart of America Bus Tour specifically addressed this extraordinary opportunity to support healing, and accelerate the visibility of already emergent thinking and practices of community.

In response to September 11, Chef Tom French set out from Seattle on Thanksgiving Day with a committed group of chefs, artists, and friends on a journey called the Heart of America Bus Tour. With major stops in Missoula, Mont., Chicago, Ill., Washington D.C., and finally New York City, the tour and it's participants led a national inquiry into the hearts and minds of Americans, created public art and facilitated community feast to promote hope and healing.

While in New York the team prepared meals for the Midtown Manhattan Fire Station for Engine #1 and visited Ground Zero. They also prepared a meal for 200 individual family members of undocumented workers who lost family members and jobs at the World Trade Center. All of the artwork and messages of hope and healing have now been archived.
