
Experience Food Project and Madres Kitchen are collaborating on a new project that will bring innovative solutions for school food programs by delivering local value added products and providing labor cost management strategies and training.
Madres Kitchen is a well established upscale catering company which provides a high quality product to many organizations and corporations throughout Puget Sound. Owners Heather Chitty and Kristen Cole are committed to leveraging their business success and expertise to develop strategies for school meals programs while providing job and life skills training opportunities for single moms.
In 2008 Madres and EFP successfully developed and marketed a breakfast burrito for schools utilizing fresh local ingredients. By bringing a product all the way through the school food system, literally from feild to table, we have gained valuable insight into operations, costs, and distribution. This experience has allowed us to refine our process and offer an additional line of products for 2009-10.
Both organizations embrace the principles of sustainability and healthy food for children.
