communities

about

tableau

Since the beginning of humankind, people have gathered around food: for
both nourishment and a sense of community.

forkIn 1999 Tableau was created as a tool for creating inspiring interactive events that motivate people into action and provide powerful results. The organization focused on working with communities, corporations, nonprofits, and other organizations to identify core values, develop vision and mission statements, and create action strategies. During WTO Tableau created an event titled 100 for 100 held at Town Hall in Seattle. This special gathering brought 100 NGO members from 23 countries including representatives from the WTO ministerial alliance to one table. Surrounded by 250 citizen witnesses, the event proved to be an important demonstration of collaborative action in addressing issues of hunger and food security.

Using this model Tableau designed and provided a unique approach to engage people in conversation at the table that connects them with their core values. Tableau events were utilized as a powerful tool for vision and action by organizations such as YMCA, City of Seattle, United Way, Whidbey Institute, Leadership Tomorrow, Seattle Public Schools, Rotary, and many others.

"We stand at the crossroads, each minute, each hour, each day, making choices.  We choose the thoughts we allow ourselves to think, the passions we allow ourselves to feel, and the actions we allow ourselves to perform.  Each choice is made in the context of whatever value system we've selected to govern our lives.  In selecting that value system we are, in a very real way, making the most important choice we will ever make."

Benjamin Franklin
